The latest installation of Playtop’s safer surfacing has delighted a school in Bogota with a unique underwater walkway and playscape inspired by the children’s classic The Jungle Book.
PIGO S.A.S, Playtop’s Columbian licensee, has built a colourful walkway and playscape at the Montessori British School of Bogota. The project, which is part of the school’s new sports complex and swimming pool installation, features 80m2 of bright, bold Playtop surfacing carefully crafted to resemble a rocky walkway through a shallow stream, complete with impressive 3D turtles, leaves and foliage.
The ‘stream’ will act as a hygienic footbath, which swimmers will use before entering the pool and will be framed by mirrors at the entrance, with the watery reflections reminiscent of the scene in Jungle Book where Mowgli is startled to see his own image in a pool of water.
Juan Rubiano, General Manager of PIGO S.A.S, explains the inspiration behind the design: “The mirrors at the entrance of the main pool mean it will work essentially as a “foot-bath”, because due to hygiene laws in Colombia every pool must have one, so the school wanted something highly creative. We designed a colourful playscape with a fun edge in which the walls will be inspired by the ‘Jungle Book’ story.”
The addition of the two turtles adds an extra dimension to the project. “We wanted to create something very attractive and unique and the turtles were crucial to all of it,” adds Juan. “In fact, it was the three-dimensional animals that charmed the school!”
